Read more reviews →Need a water heater installed in Concord? I can usually do it the same day you call. I'm Mike, a master plumber who has specialized in water heaters since 2017. I install tank and tankless water heaters, including ones you already bought from Home Depot or Lowe's, and I handle the gas, venting, electrical, and permit so it's done to code. If your old water heater failed and you need a new one, see water heater replacement.

Read more reviews →If you already bought the water heater, installing a 40 or 50-gallon tank usually runs $650 to $1,000, and a 75-gallon tank about $1,500. For a tankless unit you bought yourself, it's $1,000 to $2,000 to replace an existing tankless, or $2,000 to $3,500 to convert from a tank to tankless. The permit adds $150 to $375, including the final inspection.
The final price depends on what the gas line, venting, and electrical need, and you'll have it in writing before I start.
If you bought a water heater at Home Depot or Lowe's, I'll install it, usually the same day. A 40 or 50-gallon tank typically runs $650 to $1,000 to install, and a 75-gallon about $1,500. I hook up the water, gas, venting, and electrical to code, and the installation labor comes with a lifetime guarantee. If you haven't bought one yet, store units are often a budget version of the brand, so read my Rheem water heater review first.

Switching from a tank to tankless takes more than swapping units. Most tankless water heaters need a larger gas line and new venting, so I check both before I give you a price, and the estimate is free. The brand I recommend most is Navien. In my experience it's the most reliable, best-built tankless on the market, and the built-in recirculation puts hot water at the tap without the wait. A Navien tankless water heater with recirculation typically runs $4,500 to $6,500 installed, and I install every recirculation model Navien makes. I also work on Rinnai and Noritz, and if you bought your own tankless unit, the conversion usually runs $2,000 to $3,500.

With the Bay Area gas water heater ban coming, more Concord homeowners are asking about going electric. Switching from gas to electric typically runs $4,000 to $6,000 installed. That's about $2,500 for the equipment and $2,000 for the plumbing, with the rest depending on the electrical work your home needs, like a new 240-volt circuit or, in some older homes, a panel upgrade.

If you're adding a second water heater, finishing a remodel, or want your water heater moved out of a closet or off the back patio, I'll run the gas, water, venting, and electrical it needs. Every one of these jobs is different, so I'll come out, look at the space, and give you a price in writing before I start.
Call to Talk It Over →When you call, I'll ask what type and size of water heater you need and where you need it installed. If you already bought the unit, I'll also want the brand and whether it's gas or electric. Don't worry if you're not sure of the size. Size means how many gallons it holds, not how tall or wide it is. A 30-gallon tank can be short and wide or tall and thin. The gallons are printed on the label on the side of the tank, so read me what's on the label, or I'll check it when I get there. Then I look at what the new water heater needs: whether the gas line is big enough for it, whether the venting fits, and whether the electrical is right. A tankless unit, for example, usually needs a bigger gas line than the tank it's replacing.
Once I know what the job needs, I'll give you the total cost in writing before I start. Most installations are done the same day. When the work is finished, I test every water and gas connection and walk you through the settings so you know how your new water heater works.
